Gugu Mazibuko, the recently appointed Chief Executive of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says she will be putting the empowerment of women and youth high on her agenda. 

Mazibuko is an example of how women can hold high-powered positions with authority. She was previously Managing Director of the Johannesburg Property Company, a position she had held since 1 April 2005.  She was responsible for strategy development, management and financial accountability of the business, promoting Johannesburg as an investment destination from a property perspective and promoting black economic empowerment participation in property.

Mazibuko said her background in the property industry has given her grounding in business and she sees her new job at the chamber as an opportunity to broaden her business know-how. She said she would be making an effort to expand opportunities for local business in the global arena.
