Get Your ID Now And Register To VoteThe simple definition of democracy is that it is a government of the people, for the people, by the people.
What that means is that the people themselves form the government. Whatever the country produces and whatever wealth it grows should be used to improve the lives of the people of this country. This poses a big challenge to all patriotic citizens.
They have to shape their own future and that can only happen if they register as voters and then go to the polling stations and vote for the people they would like to represent them in parliament. Registering as a voter with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is the first step to taking your future into your own hands. Failure to do so has dire consequences. It is tantamount to asking your enemy to shape your future. Surely our young people cannot afford to give their future to people who do not have their interests at heart? To make sure that you have a direct say in choosing your representatives, you need to go and register. Even if you voted last time it is still important to go and verify with the IEC that your name is still on the voters’ roll. The government is concerned about the plight of our people. It wants to improve people’s standard of living, including building houses and roads, and supplying water and electricity. These things will not be achieved if we do not vote. By voting we are giving a mandate to people we have voted for to fight for things we need in our communities. Throughout November the IEC will be making the rounds in various centres. It is not too late for those who do not have identity documents. They can still register for IDs. A bar-coded ID is needed for voting purposes. Let us make sure that we are not caught napping. Let us prepare right now to avoid the last-minute rush which usually comes with disappointments. Register for your ID now so that you will be able to vote.
